The Writer’s Digest Poetry Awards Competition is a great poetry competition to enter if you would like to get published. Writer’s Digest hosts a number of different writing competitions, including poetry writing competitions, fiction writing contests, screenwriting contests, creative writing competitions and short story contests. In addition to the chance to meet agents and editors, you also gain the opportunity to get your writing published and your work and name in Writer’s Digest magazine. This contest is a great opportunity to receive feedback and recognition as well as a cash prize. The deadline to apply for this poetry contest is May 15th. A cash prize of $3,000 as well as an all-expense paid trip to New York City for the winning contestant to meet with agents and editors is provided to the winning essay, short story, or poem. There is no limit on the length of poems that may be submitted to the contest. All entries must be postmarked by no later than May 1st. Unlike many other poetry competitions, poems that have been previously published may be submitted to this contest, provided the entrant holds the publication rights to the work.
The Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize was originally established in 1975. The winning recipient of this poetry contest for $ will receive a cash prize of $25,000. The goal of the poem contest is to recognize the most outstanding book of poetry published in the previous year in the United States. Submissions for this contest are accepted from March 15th through May 15th. The contest honors the memory of Lenore Marshall, who was a novelist, poet, political activist, and essayist. Ms. Lenore helped to found the National Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy in 1956.
The Slapering Hol Press Chapbook Competition is another excellent opportunity for writers to attain recognition and win cash prizes for their winning submission. The poem scholarship prize for this poetry contest is a $1,000 cash award as well as publication of the winning submission, ten free books and a reading at The Hudson Valley Writers’ Center. A second chapbook may also be chosen for publication at the discretion of the contest judges. If a second chapbook is chosen, the winner will receive a cash prize of $250. This poetry competition for money is open to all writers who have not yet published a collection of poems in chapbook or book form. All submissions must be postmarked by no later than May 15th to be considered for this poem contest for money.
