NSA Writing Poetry Scholarships Contest

If you enjoy writing and are good at it, then you should highly consider the NSA writing poetry scholarships contest. The NSA is short for The National Speakers Association. I know what you’re thinking, “I am terrified of publich speaking”. Yes, we all are, but some of the world’s best publich speakers were more then terrified when they first attempted public speaking. They would become physically ill and throw up prior to giving a speech. Most of them perservered and did not quit. That is the difference. They learned the process of giving a speech and getting better at it each time. You can too.

The NSA is a support system to ensure you get beyond your fears, and realize the real you, and what you’re capable of in life. The NSA started their scholarship program in 1989 and offers four $5,000 poetry and writing scholarships which will be awarded to college juniors, seniors and graduate students majoring or minoring in speech or a similarly related field at an accredited four-year college or university.
These (4) scholarships are:

  1. The Bill Gove Scholarship, endowed with $1,000 donations from 11 NSA members.
  2. The Nido Qubein Scholarship, endowed with $1,000 donations from 23 NSA members.
  3. The Earl Nightingale Scholarship, which was endowed with a $12,500 trust by the Nightingale-Conant Corporation.
  4. The Robert Cavett Scholarship, endowed with $1,000 donations from 13 NSA members.

To qualify for one of the above writing poetry scholarships contest by the NSA you must fit into the below poem scholarship in writing guidelines:

  • A full-time student from a four-year, accredited college or university.
  • Entering undergraduate junior or senior year, or a graduate student.
  • Major or minor: Speech or directly-related communications study. (If there is no speech department, communications majors may be considered.)
  • This scholarship does not apply to speech pathology, television/radio or mass media, public relations, law, human resources.

Bill Gove, Nido Qubein, Earl Nightingale and Robert Cavett all were reknowned outstanding public speakers. The other characteristic they shared in common was, they all were terrified to death when they started public speaking and became physically ill prior to giving a speech.
