In addition, the winner will also receive a cash prize of $1,000. The first issue of America Magazine was published in 1909. The magazine is the only Catholic weekly magazine published on a national level in the United States. The majority of America Magazine’s readers are Catholic and many are clergy or religious. This award is given in honor of William T. Foley, M.D. America Magazine publishes approximately one poem per month. Most of these poems are chosen from the runner-ups submitted to the Foley Poetry Contest, which makes this poetry contest an excellent forum for recognition even for those poets who are not chosen as the grand prize winner.
Students who enjoy writing poetry and who are looking for scholarships may also wish to submit work to the National Space Society of North Texas Poetry Contest Scholarship. The first place prize for the contest includes a cash prize of $50. The poetry contest also awards a second place prize of $25 and a third place prize of $15. In addition, honorable mention certificates will also be awarded. The subject of the 2012 contest is Mars, The Next Frontier: Exploration and Settlement of Space. Any poetic form will be accepted. All submissions must be received by no later than July 31st to be considered for this contest. All winners and Honorable Mentions of the contest will be published in a chapbook. The National Space Society of North Texas has been active in the North Texas region for twenty years. The group promotes further investigation of space as the next frontier.
The Dream Quest One Poetry and Writing Contest Scholarship program is open to both domestic and international applicants. The goal of the program is to showcase strong creative writing and poetic talent. Through this contest, the group hopes to motivate, inspire and encourage any individual who has a love of poetry or writing. All summer submissions must be postmarked by no later than July 31st. Writing contest entries must not exceed five pages. Poetry contest entries may be written on any theme or subject. The first place winner of the poetry contest will receive a cash prize of $250. The second place poetry prize winner will receive $125, and the third place prize winner will receive a prize of $50. The first place winner of the writing contest will receive a cash prize of $500. The second place writing prize winner will receive $250. The third place winner of the writing contest will receive a prize of $100. This poetry contest is held on a semi-annual basis. The deadline for the winter poetry contest is typically December 31st.
The Finishing Line Press Poetry Scholarship is sponsored by Finish Line Press. General submissions are read all year around. A prize of $1,000 as well as publication with a chapbook-length poetry collection will be awarded to the winner of the 2012 competition. In addition, the top-ten finalists will receive an offer of publication. The last day to apply for the competition is July 16th. The goal of this poetry scholarship is to recognize the work of a female poet who has not yet published a full-length collection of poetry. Previous chapbook publication of poetry works will not disqualify applicants from being considered for this contest.
